5 CONVERSATIONS (2005)
Ten people walk into a bar. It sounds like the set-up for a bad joke--but it is the simple premise for this fascinating comedy/drama. There is the powerful businesswoman (Zoe Burgess) and her young assistant (Alex Dryden), who dance dangerously close to flirtation. There are the two businessmen (Jason Miller and Nate Cadman), out on the prowl. There is the young couple (Rebekah Dryden and Mac Welch), newly engaged, who bicker constantly for reasons they’ve both forgotten. There are the two single girls (Amy Grimm and Megan Upton-Tyner), one confident, one less so. And there is the young writer (Kenneth Mitchell) who takes a chance approaching an attractive woman (Anna Horsch) with a secret. And, orchestrating the chaos, there is the wise bartender (Meridith Jones) who has seen it all. These five conversations are happening at the same time--but we see them individually, revealing connections both expected and shocking. “5 Conversations” takes eavesdropping to a whole new level.
